In Art, our HEART values drive the curriculum as pupils are taught how to use visual arts media to help them realise their own ideas. We aim to develop essential techniques in the most commonly used and easily accessible media: pencils, pen and ink, and paint. The techniques are developed through a succession of progressively challenging exercises, over four years, that foster pupils’ resilience in working with varied media. These exercises help pupils understand visual elements such as landscape, the human figure, perspective and colour. Relevant artists and movements are studied to help strengthen the learning and broaden pupils’ understanding and acceptance of a diverse range of cultures and their unique aesthetic styles. Standards of excellence are promoted throughout each project helping pupils’ achieve a high technical finish in the quality of their work.
